Move Exchange Server from DC  to its own Server hardware
I have a small domain - single server that functions as DC as well as exchange server. Server 2003 standard and exchange server 2003. I want to add a new server to this domain and move the exchange server role off the DC over to the new server hardware so it can have its own hardware to run on for better performance. Is there a know proceedure that outlines best practice for this type of thing? Must the exchange server role beuninstalled from the DC, then installed on the new server hardware then move the mail boxes over to the nes server? ANy hint on what I should do would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Gerry...

I wrote this a long time ago for Exchange 2000 but it works for 2003 as well. http://www.exchangefaq.org/faq/Exchange-2000/Exchange-2000-Move-Server-Method-/sectionID/1024 Plus see this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822931 -- Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems." . Hi, Please refer to article below to move all the data to the new computer. After you have moved all the data, please try to disable all the exchange related service on the old computer, untill you ensure everything work properly you can uninstall exchange server from the old computer. How to remove the first Exchange Server 2003 computer from the administrative group http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822931 Regards, Xiu

Hi, I'm about to do the same move but new to exchange 2003 as well. My readings have suggested the following; 1. Install and patch new server( I'm using a different server name in the same Domain, not a DC) 2. Install Mail and Application Roles (ASP.Net) etc 3. run DCDiag (correct errors where necessary) 4. Skip ForestPrep and DomainPrep (not needed since existing Exchange is operational) My problem is, do I select "Deploy First Exchange Server" even though I have one already running or choose the second option?
